Longana Dominoes Game Rules

  • Longana can be played by 2 to 4 players using a double-9 domino set. Each player gets 8 tiles at the beginning of each round.
  • Remaining tiles are set aside and not used in the game.
  • The first round is started by the player who has the highest double. If no player received a double, then the hand is re-dealt. In subsequent rounds, winner of the current round takes the lead to play any double. If the player has no double, then next player (clockwise) gets a chance to lead with a double.
  • The lead double is played at the center by the lead player and then rest of the players take turn clockwise.
  • Each player has a personal train which starts from one corner of the lead double. In each turn a player can play one tile in one of the three possible ways
    1. Player can always play a matching tile on his/her personal train if possible.
    2. Player can play a matching tile on any of the opponent's train if it is open for others.
    3. Player can play a double any time on any train (personal or opponent's) even if it is not open.
  • If the player is unable to play a tile, he/she passes the turn to the next player and his/her train opens for other players to play.
  • A player's open train closes for other players and becomes available to only him/her as soon as he/she plays a tile in any of the three possible ways.
  • If two players have passed on the same number, then the person playing for that number must play it in his/her own zone or, in the zone of the first player who passed.
  • The first double can be played on as many sides as the number of players to start individual trains. Subsequent doubles can only be played on one side.
  • First player playing all his/her tiles wins the round. If the game is blocked then player with the lowest pips count in his/her hand wins.
  • If two playes end up with the same score at the end of a round, no player gets any point. In this case next round will be started by the player who has the heighest double.
  • Winner of the round scores the difference of his/her hand and that of rest of the players
  • The game is played for multiple rounds and first player to score 100 points wins.
