Dancing Dragons Dominoes Game Rules

  • "Dancing Dragons" domino game is played with one set of Chinese dominoes (32 tiles). This game is played much like the western domino games where players try to play dominoes in their hands at one of the two matching ends of the layout (called the "Dragon" in this game).
  • Chinese dominoes set consists of 32 tiles which are divided in two suits or groups. "Civil" and "Military". There are 21 unique combinations. Civil suit contains 2 each of eleven tiles (6-6, 1-1, 4-4, 1-3, 5-5, 3-3, 2-2, 5-6, 4-6, 1-6, 1-5). Military suit contains one each of ten tiles (3-6, 4-5; 2-6, 3-5; 2-5, 3-4; 2-4; 1-4, 2-3; 1-2).
  • The game can be played by 2 to 4 players. Each player gets certain number of tiles (16 tiles for 2-player, 10 tiles for 3-player and 8 tiles for 4-player game) at the beginning of each round. In three-player game remaining two tiles are not used.
  • In the first round, a player is selected randomly to take the first turn who can play any tile to start with. Subsequent rounds are started by winner of the previous round. If there are more than one winners, then one winner is selected randomly to start next round.
  • In subsequent turns after the first turn, each player places a matching tile at one of the two ends of the layout (or the "Dragon").
  • If a player can not play, then he/she must discard a tile face-down.
  • There is no spinner in the game. Doubles are played horizontally.
  • Play continues until each player has either played or, discarded all of his/her tiles. The hand then ends and it is scored.
  • All players individually count pips of the discarded tiles, if any. The player with the smallest pips count wins the round. If one or more players place all tiles and therefore have no discards, then other players' scores are doubled.
  • The game ends once a player reaches 50 or more points at the end of a round. The player with the lowest score at that point wins the game.
